What is adaptive behaviour
collection of conceptual, social, and practical skills that are learned and performed by people in everyday lives
2 Benefits of the AAIDD classification
1) Provides a way to classify and organise information about support needs
2) Acknowledges that adaptive limitations and adaptive strengths can coexist
5 Ways the AAIDD classification provides and organises information about support needs

2) Frequency (number of times per week of support)
3) context (environment for support)
4) resources (resources required to provide support)
5) Impact of support on life of recipient
3 Limitations of the AAIDD approach
1) DSM-5 may be more widely known
2) IQ + adaptive behaviour assessments (and results) can be influenced by administration (clinical/experience/judgement)
3) complexity/comorbidity occurs amongst people including those with ID
