Lecture 1 - What is Motor Control? Flashcards
what is motor learning
refers to change in the processes that govern how movement is produced
what is motor control
refers to the processes that govern how movement is produced
motor behaviour
study of variables and processes that contribute to skilled movement in humans i.e. physical, psychological, neural
- > motor behaviour is the outcome of motor control and learning
internal factors of motor control
internal factors
- > neural, psychological and physiological mechanisms of control of movements and postures
- > organization of CNS to produce coordinated actions
characteristics of motor learning
permanent change in the ability to perform a motor task as a result of practice or experience
- > NOT growth, fatigue, ect
what does motor refer to?
movement
what is necessary for movement to occur
muscle, it’s control of the muscle by the CNS that produces the movement that we see
explain how our focus on human motor control/learning can relate to motor control/learning across all animals
- > the scientific principles should apply across all animals
- > there is a reciprocal information exchange between the human(animal) and the environment/ reciprocal information exchange between action and perception
why do we study motor control/learning
to increase our understanding of how action is produced
practical uses of motor learning
industry
- > production line, robots, ects
rehabilitation
athletic/artistic performances
