A process for understanding the world

Having an idea of the solution to a problem, designing an experiment to test it

They claimed that their products helped to slow intestinal transit and prevented colds, which was never scientifically proven
What is peer-reviewed science? why is it important?
It is science backed-up and has been replicated numerous times before being accepted as a fact, it helps to establish truth
How many variables can be evaluated in a study?
Just one (ideally), others have to be controlled
What is the opposite of science?
Superstitions
What is biological literacy?
ability to:
- Use process of scientific method to think creatively about issues
- Communicate those thoughts to others and
- Integrate them into your decision making
What is anecdotal evidence?
An observation that has not been tested yet
What is empirical information?
Based off observation and tests
Is an hypothesis supported or proved?
It is supported
What are the steps of the scientific method?
- Observation
- Hypothesis
- Devise testable prediction
- Conduct critical experiment
- Draw conclusions and make revisions
What is a null hypothesis?
claims that there will be no effect on the variables
