Neck is

A

is a conduit for important structures of respiratory and alimentary systems. Carries the blood supply to and from the head.
And is also the embryological source of upper limbs.

Q

what are the two major divisions of the skull

A

Neurocranium: Surrounds the brain.
viscerocranium: Forms the face and surrounds oral cavity, pharynx and upper respiratory tract.

Q

CNV

 • Special sense, General sensory or Motor?
 • Skull aperture exits/ enters cranial cavity?
 • General area supplied?
A

The trigeminal nerve is both general sensory nerve and motor nerve. V1 exits through the superior orbital fissure.
The V2 exits through foramen rotundum and V3 exits through foramen ovale.
It supplies the first pharyngeal arch derivatives: the face, Jaws, oral and nasal cavity.

CNVI

 • Special sense, General sensory or Motor?
 • Skull aperture exits/ enters cranial cavity?
 • General area supplied?
A

The abducens nerve is a motor nerve that exits through the superior orbital fissure. it generally supplies the orbit area as well.

CN VII

 • Special sense, General sensory or Motor?
 • Skull aperture exits/ enters cranial cavity?
 • General area supplied?
A

Facial nerve. Its a special sensory nerve, general sensory and a motor nerve. It exits through the internal auditory meatus. It supplies the second pharyngeal arch derivatives: The face and the oral cavity.

Glossopharyngeal nerve like the facial is all three special sense, general sensory and a motor nerve. it exits through the jugular foramen. Supplies the 3rd Pharangeal arch derivatives: Parotid gland and pharynx.

The Vagus nerve is also an all in one nerve like CN IX and CN VII. It exits through the jugular foramen. It supplies the 4th-6th arch derivatives. Including pharynx, heart, and lungs.

Q

The Chondrocranium consists of Anterior to posterior:

A
 • Ethmoid bone
 • Lesser wing of sphenoid bone
 • greater wing and body of the sphenoid bone
 • Petrous part of temporal bone
 • Base of Occipital bone
18
Q

The Dermatocranium which is also called the membranous neurocranium Consists of

A

It consists of bones formed via discrete centers of ossification in the mesenchyme (Embryonic connective tissue). This includes:

 • Paired frontal bones (Anterior fontanelle which closes middle of the second year)
 • Paired parietal bones (Posterior Fontanelle which closes at about 3 months of age)
 • Occipital bone superior to nuchal line
 • Zygomatic Bone
 • Nasal bone
 • Maxilla bone
