Q

How is skin attached?

A

Skin is very loosely attached because fat layer is underneath. Except at the umbilicus where scar tissue is strongly attached.

Skin collagen runs laterally like dermatomes.

Q

Why when you have a surgery (I.e. removing appendix)do they cut horizontally and not vertically?

A

Since collagen runs naturally like dermatomes horizontally. the skin heals better because you are not slicing through the collagen.. Instead you are cutting between and along it.

Q

What is the aponeurosis of the external oblique around the ligament that connects the iliac spine to the pubic tubercle?

A

Ilioinguinal canal

17
Q

What does the ilioinguinal canal do?

A

lets structures run superficial to deep through the canal.
