Describe the “persuading” method of counseling. Who takes responsibility of the decision?
Counseling by persuasion. The professional takes the responsibility of the decision, not the client.
What is the problem with persuading?
Clients do not own their behavior. People do not follow through because the decision did not come from within them.
How can we help clients become congruent?
Listen to clients and understand what they care about.
Present possibilities and choices
Counseling must always increase possibilities for people.
What should a clinician do with a client that is feeling a lot of emotion?
We must FIRST permit them to express those feelings.
Once the feelings are expressed, then they can engage their intellect

Pros: Ideally, we can read these and think about clients before they come. Saves time during the first interview; makes you seem prepared.

An interview is a serious conversation between two parties conducted for one or more important purposes.
