What is disease and what are the types?
disease is any deviation from normal. types are non-infectious, infectious, and parasitic
What are non-infectious diseases?
mechanical, digestive, toxins, nutritional, and abnormal growths
What are infectious diseases?
diseases caused by pathogens, which is a bacteria, virus, or other microorganism that can cause disease. types are viral, bacterial, protozoal, and fungi
How do infectious diseases spread?
contact with other animals, contaminated water sources, ingesting of infected fecal matter, vectors, airborne
What is immunity?
the process by which particles foreign to the body are identified and destroyed
What are the forms of immunity?
Natural, acquired
What inhibits immune function?
extremes in temp, behavioral or social stresses, poor nutrition
What is a biological?
primarily used to prevent disease by stimulating the immune system (a vaccine)
What is a pharmaceutical?
mainly used to treat disease (antibiotic)
What are the vaccine types?
Killed and modified live
