What are sheep products in the U.S?
Wool, lamb meat, yearling lamb meat, and mutton, and sheep cheese.
Why do we use animal fibers?
To absorb moisture and for retention, insulation, flame retardant, elastic, durable, performance fiber.
What are the wool quality factors?
Yield, fiber diameter, vegetable matter, staple length, strength, color, crimp.
What sheep breeds are maternal?
Ewes, they are white faced, fine to medium wool, and excel in wool production and fertility. Breeds like merino, columbia, and rambouillet.
What sheep breeds are paternal?
Rams, excel in carcass traits, growth rate. Breeds like texel, dorper, hampshire.
What are fine wool breeds?
Merino and Rambouillet
What are medium wool breeds?
Hampshire and Suffolk.
What are long wool breeds?
Lincoln
What are crossbred wool breeds?
Columbia.
What are goat FIBER breeds?
Angora
What are goat MEAT breeds?
South African Boer goat, spanish goat.
What are dairy goat breeds?
LaMancha, Nubian, Saanen.
