- Measurements of individual differences
- Hazan and Shaver (1987) romantic love is attachment: Secure, avoidant, anxious.
- Bartholomew and Horowitz (1991) split to 4 styles: Dismissing, fearful, secure, preoccupied.
- Brennan, Clar and Shaver (1998) 2 measures of insecurity: Avoidance and anxiety. Dismissing (low anxiety, high avoidance) Fearful (High anxiety, high avoidance) Secure (low anxiety, low avoidance) Preoccupied (high anxiety, low avoidance).

Bowlby- schema- dispositional global style and then for specific relations.
• Bartholomew and Horowitz (1991) uni student sample: Dismissing (18%), Fearful (15%), Secure (57%), preoccupied (10%)
• Feenley and Hobhaus (2001) married couples sample: Dismissing (23%), Fearful (17%), Secure (41%), preoccupied (19%)
Airport separation study- highly avoidant men less likely to seek support, anxious women report more distress, anxious men retain less contact.

priming attachment styles
Row and Carnelley (2003) priming: Results showed that pps recalled words congruent with the style they were primed with. True for interpersonal expectations: with primed secures having the most positive interpersonal expectations and primed anxious having the most negative interpersonal expectations.
