Learning and Activating Vocabulary. Flashcards
In this video I am going to look at vocabulary from part 1 and we are going to learn from sounds which means it might be difficult, but I think it will be very useful.
For now, I am going to ask you
* to listen
* to repeat
* to repeat and change a word (so you get more flexibility)
* to make it true for you (because when you make something true for you, you personalise it and it really helps you remember how to use the word.)
Do you work or are you a student?
So, let’s look at how we can answer this, and just practicing learning from sounds.
So, I will just look at this one question first, give an answer and I just want you to repeat.
Do you work or are you a student?
I work for a bank
I work for a school
I work for the government
Great, now if I just say the word, can you repeat?
So, if I say ‘bank’, you say ‘I work for a bank’.
Now let’s say a sentence that is true for you
I work for myself.
What about you?
Great let’s expand our answer now and let’s talk about how long we have worked.
I’ve worked there for fifteen years or so.
‘or so’ is a really nice phrase just meaning ‘more or less’
I’ve worked there for five years or so.
I’ve worked there for six months or so.
Great I’ll say the word, you say the phrase.
Great and now what’s true for you?
I’ve worked there for two years or so. What about you?
Finally let’s talk about what we do in our job.
Basically my job involves designing products
So, let’s repeat.
Basically my job involves designing products.
Basically my job involves selling products.
Basically** my job involves** teaching others.
Great I’ll say the word, you say the phrase.
Fantastic and now what’s true for you?
Well, basically my job involves teaching others. What about you?
So now we put them all together.
Do you work or are you a student?
I work for a company as EE. I’ve worked there for about 10 years or so. Basically my job involves industrial design of plants.
And now, what about you?
Great so there are more questions in this part, but we will finish here. Other questions are
What do you like about your work?
What is your ideal job?
10 Powerful answer templates
In part 1, you want your answers to be fairly short, but developed and talking about you.
Here are 10 simple ways to expand and develop your sentences, so they become more interesting and present richer language.
This in turn, will help you get a higher score on Vocabulary and Grammar. These are just a guide. You do not have to use these, but if they help you, then do use them.
YES - BUT
YES - BECAUSE
YES + EXAMPLE
YES - IF NOT
YES - SO
YES - OTHERWISE
I THINK - THAT SAID
I GUESS - MIND YOU
I’D SAY - AT THE SAME TIME
IT DEPENDS - IF - IF
