Lean Management Flashcards
What is the purpose of Lean management?
Is to minimise and maximalise value and productivity in the operations systems using 4 principals.
what areas can businesses use LEAN to reduce waste in 7 areas?
- Transport
- inventory
- Motion
- waiting times
- over-processing
- overproduction
- defects
Key Principal: Pull
Pull revolves only creating products when customers have ordered them instead of making products to push stores, therefore minimising waste.
One-Piece Flow
One-Piece flow revolves around having one piece of work move along the line of processes as it’s completed, one piece at a time. This reduces waiting times, ensuring a constant production flow. It is also helpful to notice errors in the pieces.
Takt
Is a calculation of the maximum allowable time for products to be in production to match customer demand, which maximises available production time. This provides clear production goals for the business and reduces wastage through overstocking.
Zero Defects
Aims to eliminate defects in products throughout the production process. Catching and fixing defects along the way improves efficiency through minimising time spent on repairs, speeding up production. Costs are reduced as less products need to be remade or fixed.
