Plan to stabilise Germ economy
Total reparations are the same
Depts would be paid in installments, gradually increasing until 1929
US loan given to Germ
Payments guaranteed by Germ revenues form key industries
France & Belgium had to withdraw from Ruhr
Mosul Dispute
1924, Turkey/Iraq
Mosul was part of Turkish Empire
Mosul with its oil became part of British mandate of Iraq
Turkey demanded region
LON ruled in favour of Iraq

Greek/Bulgarian dispute
1925
Greek soldiers killed in dispute at Greek/Bulgarian border
Greece invades, Bulgaria appeals to LON
LON tells Greece to leave and pay compensation
Greece accepts, but is annoyed bc Italy got away with Corfu
Origins of Locarno Conference
Germany needed to partially fulfill terms of Versailles to build relations with Brit & France, so that Versailles can eventually be amended later
Germ needed to reassure France of it’s peaceful intentions so France could chill tf out with Germ
Locarno Treaty (Treaty of Mutual Guarantee)

Germ, Brit, France, Belgium & Italy
Germ Accepted Western borders only
No invasion by force except in self defence
Reassured France of borders & Germ of French invasion
Brit & It agreed to guarantee main agreement
Germ joined LON
Other Agreements at Locarno Conference
Germ signed treaties with Poland & Czechos renouncing use of force
Did not accept eastern borders

USA & France
France still insecure after Locarno, wanted Pact with USA outlawing war
USA didn’t want to commit bc didn’t want to be dragged into war, suggested opening pact to other countries
Outlawed wars of aggression, not self-defence, appealing to other cunts
Eventually signed by most established nations
Agreed on two clauses:
1. Outlawing war as an instrument of national policy
2. All disputes had to be settled peacefully
Young Plan
1929
German reparations reduced
Reparations payed over next 59 years
Bank of International Settlements set up
Brit & France agree to evacuate Rhineland
