Why were successor states created?
- were created as a result of major European Empires breaking up after WW1
- Existence confirmed by Paris Peace Settlement 1919
- Peacemakers wanted to establish a new series of democratic states which would act as a defense against communism
How did Wilson cause issues for the successor states?
- His ideas of self-determination were too simplistic
- He wanted states to be drawn along lines of language
-difficult due to ethnic diversity of Eastern Europe
