what does the upper epidemis do?
outmost tissue on upper side - protects leaf
what does the lower epidemis do?
protects the lower side of the leaf
what happens in the palisade layer?
where photosynthesis happens due to its rows of elongated cells in the upper centre of the leaf
what is the cuticle and what does it do?
a waxy layer that cover the epiddermis; holds in moisture
Whats the stoma?
opening between guard cells which allows gas exchange and water to pass in and out
what is the spongy layer?
a place of irregular shaped cells in the lower centre of the leaf, it absorbs gas & water
what is the air space for?
space in spongy layer that contains gases
what do the chloroplasts do?
cells in the leaves contain chloroplasts that trap light and converts to chemical energy

90%
what % does the spongy layer of leaf do in phtosyn?
