- Empathy
- Listening skills
- Honesty

How have you demonstrated behaviours require to lead or manage teams?
I have demonstrated empathy when someone could not attend a workshop due to being ill. I filled in their shoes and presented their slides. This demonstrated taking responsibility
What are the different leadership styles?
- Democratic – decides based on mutual input
- Autocratic – decides by themselves
- Laissez-fare – decisions come from individual employees
- Strategic – decisions are based on strategy and goals
- Coaching – leader nurtures individuals
- Transformational – pushes the team to think in new ways
What does being a ‘democratic’ leader mean? How do you know this?
This leadership style encourages all team members to participate in decision making by sharing their opinions. This works well as my team doing R&D and facing sustainability challenges, we do a lot of problem solving together
I did a few online quizzes to ascertain my style
Tell us about a time you lead a team …
At the sustainability team day event
Tell us about a time you lead a project well …
ICCE project – developing a proof of concept which will be a real product. Good feedback from stakeholders
Tell us about a time you have handled a dispute …
Research issue - recognition or A1-A3 data
How do you manage the relationships with consultants?
- Be professional
- Communicate often
- Set tasks and deadlines
How did you lead the team meeting and keep all stakeholders engaged?
I led it with a semi-structured agenda. Stakeholders were engaged as we went through their role in the workplan, expected comments and asked them to prep for the early careers cohort a 3 minute pitch on their role. There were actions to take away too
How do you influence people?
First try to understand them and their drivers, then relate the issue back to them e.g. flooding at their home from climate change
What challenges have you encountered leading the 10tC?
- Projects think they cannot reduce by 10 tonnes
- Behaviour/disinterest – seen as an addition to their day job
What reaction has happened to the 10tC leader board?
It has been a positive one as it is sent to the ADs who are competitive and so sustainability leadership and guidance is now coming from the top and trickling down
