What does a good negotiation include? How do you conduct one?
- Offering something small from you which is big for them
- Deciding what can be traded and what is non-negotiable
- Considering what way negotiations should be handled e.g. in person, telephone, Teams
- Doing a SWOT analysis
What language is correct to use in a professional context?
- Complete sentences
- Correct grammar
- Appropriate formalities
- Correct tone
- Body language
How do you simplify technical language?
I would break it down and try to relate it to the person I am speaking with. For example if explaining carbon definitions to design managers, I would create a visual graphic to help – show certain bar chart from CarboniCa to design managers and site teams, provide definitions, helpful videos
How do you decide which communication method is best?
Depends on the topic, urgency, amount of information, complexity and audience.
What is an Insights Profile? How has this helped you?
An Insights Profile is a psychometric tool based on Jung theories which has a colour model with associated strengths, weaknesses, values, etc.
I learnt I am 80% blue which means I prefer analytical tasks by myself. I often dial up yellow to form relationships.
How do you motivate teams to reduce carbon by 10 tonnes? How do you persuade them?
- KPI
- ‘Do the right thing’
- Persuade them by assisting in offering solutions too e.g. looking through CarboniCa with them at ‘carbon hotspots’ and helping workshop ideas, providing previous examples too
What is the satisfactory outcome of negotiations?
That both parties are happy with the deal and it is a win-win. At the very least, it has created some value for both parties.
How do you demonstrate effective communication?

When communicated between two or more people whereby the intended message has been delivered and fully understood

The resolution of differences by a mutual compromise
What do you do as the internal point of contact for the carbon champions?
I have 1-1 catch ups with all regional carbon champions every month. Here they get time to ask queries which have mounted over the last month. Queries include BNG, 10tC or general advice.
