Explain autocratic with sporting examples
Dominant, leader makes all the decisions, do not take into account needs/opinions of the group
Eg sir Alex Ferguson, Roy Keane
Explain democratic with sporting examples
Listens to the views of others (opinions/needs), consultations (building relationships), leader still makes the decisions
Eg sir clive Woodward , Steve mclaren
Explain laissez faire
Leader does not make any decisions, leaves the player to make their own decisions, to be successful it can only be used by the elite
Best situation to use autocratic
Cognitive learner Large group (team sport) Decisions have to be made quickly When complicated decisions have to be made Males Health and safety risk Bad/low moral and relationships
Best situation to use democratic
Autonomous learner Small group (individual) Plenty of time to make decisions When the leader is unsure Females No risk/danger High/good moral and relationships

Appointed by an external agency (usually NGB)

Naturally come from within the group

Hard to break away from the group and become the leader (-)

Watching good leadership and copying, so experience develops you to become a better leader

Born as a leader so it is innate (usually autocratic)

Born as a leader then the environment brings it out of you, modify it, learn through experience

Improving the performance of athletes through hard training and strenuous conditioning. Instruction will be given on tactics and technique

Concern is displayed by the leader for the welfare of individual group members. This behaviour is characterised by warm relations with individual members
Explain rewarding behaviour leadership
Poitier feedback rewards good individual and group performance. This behaviour reinforces the value of cohesion
