What are the 3 leadership styles
Autocratic, democratic, laissez-faire
What makes a good leader?
good communication, high motivation, clear goal / vision and empathy
what is an emergent leader?
Emergent leaders come from within the group because they are skilful or the rest of the team selected them. These types of leaders are recognised as one of the team but might be biased by friendships.
What is a prescribed leader?
prescribed leaders are appointed by an external source, they can bring a ‘fresh pair of eyes’ but they might not be involved or aware of the team culture.
What is an autocratic leader?
A leader who makes most of the decisions and concentrates on the job that needs to be done.
What is a democratic leader?
A leader who is more concerned with interpersonal relations and is more social orientated. They invite contribution.
What is a laissez-faire leader?
A leader who makes no decisions and takes a backseat letting the group make the decisions.
What is trait perspective?
This theory states that leaders have genetic characteristics which supports the belief that ‘leaders are born not made’. This theory shows characteristics as innate, stable and enduring.
What is social learning theory in leadership?
This theory states that leadership characteristics are learned from others. Shown to improve with significant people as role model.
What is interactionist theory of leadership?
This theory states that an individual may be born with some leadership characteristics but that these characteristics are situational. E.G. leader on the pitch but not in everyday life.
What is vicarious learning?
watching someone get a reward for a certain behaviour and copying it
