Attribution Flashcards
What are the 4 main reasons for results according to Weiner’s model?
- Ability
- Task difficulty
- Effort
- Luck
What is the locus of causality in Weiner’s model?
Refers to whether the attribution comes from within the person (internal) or from the environment (external).
This is at the top of weiners model
What is the stability dimension of Weiner’s model?
Refers to whether an attribution is stable or unstable / changeable or unchangeable.
What is a problem with Weiner’s model?
It is not sport specific
What is self-serving bias?
sports performers who tend to lose tend to attribute their failure to external causes. Sports performers who succeed usually attribute their success to internal factors.
What is the 3rd dimension of Weiner’s model?
Controllability
What is controllability?
Whether attributions are under the control of the performer of under the control of others.
What dimensions are Luck in on Weiner’s model?
External, unstable
What dimensions are Task Difficulty in Weiner’s model?
external, stable
What dimensions are Effort in Weiner’s model?
internal, unstable
What dimensions are Ability in Weiner’s model?
internal, stable
What is the only reason in Weiner’s model which is controllable?
Effort
What is learned helplessness?
The belief that failure is inevitable and can be for a specific situation (specific) or groups of situations (global)
What causes learned helplessness?
New performers often attribute failure to uncontrollable factors which can lead to learned helplessness.
What is mastery orintation?
this is the view that a performer will be motivated by wanting to become an expert in the skill or sport.
