Hundred Years War
A
- fought between France and England
- fought over the status of the duchy - though it belonged to English kings, it remained a fief of the French crown and the English wanted independent possession
- also fought over the fact that the English claimed French crown because of their closest relations with Charles V
- end of conflict never marked by peace treaty, but England defeated and France went on to become European powerhouse

- law created under English parliament under Edward III
- designed to suppress the labor force by prohibiting increases in wages and prohibiting the movement of workers from their home areas in search of improved conditions
- poorly enforced and did not stop rise of wages

Joan the Maid
A
- born to a poor family in France in 1412
- had visions of saints who told her to support Charles VII and to recover France from English rule
- led French armies to victory during the Hundred Years War
- requested private audience with Charles VII, said to have revealed Godly knowledge
- led armies, but then captured, tried, and burnt at the stake
- was later cleared of all charges and canonized

Flagellants Peasants’ Revolt
A
- radical movement in the 13th-14th century
- consisted of radicals in the Catholic church
- would whip themselves
- hoped their sins would be forgiven and they would be spared of the Black Death

Composite Monarchy
A
- early modern states consisting of several countries under one ruler
- governs territories as if they were separate kingdoms
- two different kinds: kingdoms separated by large bodies of water or states and those who were not separated
- conformity was important in a composite monarchy
- ex: Ottoman Empire; striking difference was that it allowed religious tolerance
