What is aphasia?
language disorder due to focal brain injury , after language aquisition
What can be 4 possible causes?
stroke, tumor, infection, traumatic brain injury
Can people with Brocas aphasia read or write?
No, same as speech
How do Brocas patients speak?
They barely speak, it is very difficult to say words for them
What are paraphasias?
Word substitutions
How do Weinicke patients speak?
Fluent but incomprehensible, repetition is impaired
Where is Brockas area front/ back?
Front
What do lesions in the temporal-parietal area produce?
Anomic aphasia
Can anomic aphasia patients speak fluently?
Yes
What is the problem in anomic aphasia?
Word finding
What type of aphasia impairs language comprehension?
Wernicke
What type of verbs can Brocas patients not handle?
verb movement, intransitive words
What type of words can anomic afphasia patients handle better?
intrumental verbs
What is apraxia of speech?
Neurological deficit in which speech muscles are not programmed correctly
What is the diagnosis for bad articulation?
Dysarthria
