The Break
A
- With interval, at 200 KIAS, roll 45-60 deg AOB into the turn and, pull power to idle-10% and maintain altitude, trim for deceleration (right/up)
- Verbally confirm airspeed below 150, “below 150” clear
Halfway through the break, adjust AOB to establish 3/4 to 1 wingtip distance on the downwind - Slow to 120 KIAS, maintaining break alt and trimming for decel (right/up)
- Approaching 130 KIAS, retract the speed brake if extended, lower nose and descend at 120 KIAS to pattern altitude. No sooner than wings level, adjust flap setting

- Make 180 call
- Roll into 20-30 AOB turn

- 14, 15, 18 / 120, 115, 110
- Begin slowing, reduce power as required (technique 10-12%)
- Adjust AOB to rollout on extended centerline 1200-1500ft prior to TD and 100-150ft AGL
