Landing Gear Flashcards
What does the electrical override switch accomplish in the GEAR DOWN position?
Electronically bypasses the PSEM, opens the forward and aft doors and extends the gear
What does the ALTERNATE GEAR EXTENSION LEVER accomplish when pulled?
Relieves hydraulic pressure in the landing gear lines and releases all landing gear up locks
If there is a discrepancy in the landing gear position, how long does it take for there to be a warning?
20 seconds
If there is a red hatched box for the landing gear position, what does this indicate?
that the respective gear is kept in transit and is not locked in the commanded position
If the landing gear indicator shows a red DN label inside a red circle, what is the problem?
There is a discrepancy between the gear position and the landing gear handle position.
What is required for the EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKE - ON light to be illuminated?
There has to be hydraulic pressure on the brake line with the parking brake actuated.
Is the parking brake part of the green light logic on the nose wheel steering linkage?
YES
What does the green light on the nose wheel indicate?
Steering disengaged through the external disengage switch
Parking Brake not applied
Main Brakes not applied
If the nose wheel in the cockpit is engaged, could there be a green light on the nose wheel for ramp reference?
Yes as the nose wheel steering activated by the tiller is not part of the logic
What would prevent the landing gear from retracting on takeoff?
If two WOW sensors on the same landing gear fail
What might be the reason a LG NO DISPATCH caution message is displayed?
If two WOW sensors on the same landing gear fail
If two WOW sensors on the same landing gear fail in flight what EICAS message would be displayed?
LG WOW SYS FAIL
If a shock absorber does not fully extend on takeoff, what might be the result?
The PSEM senses an aircraft on ground condition. The result is the landing gear lever is locked down. DO NOT USE THE DOWN LOCK RELEASE BUTTON UNLESS TERRAIN CLEARANCE IS IN QUESTION.
What does the ELECTRICAL OVERRIDE EXTENSION accomplish?
It bypasses the PSEM in the event of a landing gear control box failure and extends the gear in the same sequence as normal operation.
What assists the gear down to the locked position when the ALTERNATE GEAR EXTENSION is used?
Gravity and aerodynamic forces
What are the functions of the BCM - Brake Control Module
Locked wheel Protection
Anti-skid protection
Automatic wheel braking
Touchdown protection
When is locked wheel protection active?
At wheel speeds above 30 kts
What is the system logic for wheel protection?
It compares the wheel speed of either the Left AND Right OUTBOARD brakes, or the Left AND Right INBOARD brakes and commands zero pressure to the brake of the slower wheel if wheel speed is 33% or below it’s paired wheel speed.
When is the Anti-skid system active?
Wheel speeds above 10 kts
Does the anti skid system protect against tire skidding when using the parking brake?
NO
What is touch down protection?
Prevents the aircraft from touching down with the main landing gear brakes applied
When is touch down protection active?
On landing until 3 seconds WOW or
wheel speed of + 50 kts
What powers the emergency parking brake?
Hydraulic systems 1 and 2
How many full brake applications are available with the parking brake accumulators?
6 applications
What might cause a STEER FAIL message?
After power up, the first steering engagement must take place with the aircraft stopped. The reason is there is a hard over test that won’t be successful.
If taxiing at 28 kts, what is the maximum steering deflection?
20 degrees
The maximum steering deflection as the aircraft approaches 100 kts is what?
7 degrees
The maximum steering deflection is ___ up to ____ kts?
76 degrees up to 10 kts
What is the maximum steering angle using the rudder pedals?
7 degrees
What is the minimum turn radius with max steering input?
59 ft 2 inches… Good Luck with that!!
