Air Management System Flashcards
Will the APU bleed open if there is left engine bleed air?
NO
The engine bleed air will automatically shut down by closing the engine bleeds when… ?
Bleed Air Leak
Overpressure
Failed Condition
What obscure system is the bleed air used for?
Water Pressurization
Will the engine bleed valves open if there is a fire detected?
NO
Will the engine bleed valves open if there is a leak detected?
NO
Will the cross bleed valve open with the APU bleed ON and engine #1 start in the air?
NO… for engine #1 start in the air
The APU bleed must be OFF for the cross bleed valve to open
If the cross bleed valve fails open what happens?
Engine bleed #1 will close if there is bleed air available from #2
If there is a bleed leak, will the cross bleed valve open?
NO… unless starting an engine
What are the conditions for the RAM air valve to open?
Both packs are commanded OFF
Aircraft altitude less than 25,000
Does the negative pressure relief valve require power to operate?
NO electrical power is needed… it is spring loaded.
When does the negative pressure relief valve open?
-.5 psi
When does the positive pressure relief valve open?
8.77
What is the nominal differential pressure if cruise flight is set below FL370?
7.8 psi
What is the nominal differential pressure if the cruise is set at or above FL 370
8.34 psi
Pushing the DUMP button accomplishes what?
Sets the packs and recirculation fans to OFF
Controls the outflow valve to maintain 2000
fpm up to a cabin altitude of 12,400
When cabin altitude reaches 12,400, outflow valves close.
Is the Dump function available in manual mode?
NO… there is no DUMP function in manual mode. HOWEVER, the packs and recirculation fans are still shutdown.
Will the automatic cabin depressurization work in manual mode?
NO
When is the DUMP function used
Evacuation
Smoke Removal
Fast cabin depressurization
For rapid cabin depressurization or smoke removal what can be done?
Push the DUMP button on the PRESSURIZATION PANEL
What is the memory item for smoke evacuation?
O2 Masks ON - EMERGENCY
ESTABLISH COMMUNICATIONS
PRESSURIZATION DUMP - PUSH IN
The AMS gives priority to the APU bleed on the ground below what speed?
50 KTS
What happens if ground speed exceeds 50 KTS on the ground with the APU bleed on and taxiing on the left engine only?
The bleeds will be transferred to the left engine and it will provide bleed air
What is the approximate ration of fresh vs mixed air?
52% Fresh 48 % Mixed Recirculated Air
Which cargo compartment can animals be carried?
Forward Cargo ONLY
The EMERGENCY RAM AIR valve will only open under what conditions?
Only if both ECS packs are commanded OFF or failed OFF and the aircraft altitude is less than 25,000
More to follow regarding…
Ram Air Emergency Ventilation
What does the AMS controller do??
Provides primary control for the bleed air sub systems: bleed control air conditioning hot air leak detection crew O2 monitoring wing and engine ice protection
How many AMS controller channels are there?
2
What does pushing in of the PACK 1 push button on the AIR CONDITIONING / PNEUMATIC panel accomplish
Manually closes the pack flow control valve
Pushed in allows automatic operation by the AMS
What does the RECIRCULATION button on the AIR CONDITIONING / PNEUMATIC panel do?
turns off BOTH recirculation fans
If all the buttons are dark and pushed in on the AIR CONDITIONING / PNEUMATIC panel, what is taking place
Normal function of the AMS allowing automatic operation of the AMS
On the AIR CONDITIONING / PNEUMATIC panel, what does pushing out of the BLEED buttons accomplish?
Closes the respective Bleed Valves
If the DUMP valve is pressed, how is the system returned to normal?
Pushing the DUMP button a second time returns the system to normal
