Landing Gear Flashcards
What wheel type is used more and why
Nose - wheel because better forceful breaking and visibility and better directional stability
Wheel types
Single
Double
Boogie
What are the rudder pedals used
Steering with a max angle of 10 degrees
What’s the purpose of a torsion link
Cylinder moves up and down which stops inner cylinder rotating in the outer
What’s used in a shock strut
Nitrogen for the spring and hydraulic fluid for dampening
What don’t spherical bearings do
Transmit torque
What does the FMD do
Controls the speed the actuator spins
What does down lock do
Keeps gear down and in locked position
What’s the purpose of the wiper ring
Keep small material out of strut during compression
Where is a dynamic seal used
Linear or rotational movement
When is a static seal used
For Steady or pulsating force
What does a green indication light mean
Down and locked
What does a red indication light mean
Unlocked and moving
If there’s no indication light what does that mean
Up and locked
What’s the purpose of a sequence valve
Allows door to open and close , gears to extend and retract in the right sequence
What are wheels made of
Aluminium alloy because it’s light and strong
Magnesium is lighter but corrodes easier
Where’s the inflating valve located
Outboard half of the wheel
What does a inflating valve do
Auto release of tyre pressure when temperature of wheel increases to a certain level
What is a type 3 tyre
Low pressure up to 160mph
What is a type 7 tyre
High pressure up to 225mph
Type 8 tyre
Extra high pressure up to 280mph
