Q
Proglacial lakes and overflow channels
A
Ice sheets block the course of a river causing it to flood and form a lake.
The watershed is breached and the lake overflows.
A new river channel is formed.
Often the newer channel is lower so the river keeps its course.
E.g. - lake lapworth and the river Severn. Old course = Ironbridge gorge
