Land-evaluation part 2 Flashcards

1
Q

Geospatial ecosystem methodology

A

Based on standardized Terrestrial ecosystems
- sequenatial physical stratification of the earth in a set of unique physical environments with their associated biota

  • The biodiversity that occurs any area is largely the result of a biotic response to the physical environmental potential and local dynamic processes.

unique environmental settings = unique assemblages of biodiversity

  • land surface forms, surficial lithology, bioclimates, topographic moisture potential, associated land cover

Q

AEZ

A

agro-ecological zoning

ZONES
- on basis of soil, landform & climatic characteristics

  • similar combinations of potentials & constraints
  • Focus for recommendations (increasing production or reducing land degradation

Can be further used for land resource appraisal, natural resource analysis & land use planning if combined with other information

  • knowledge current and future production potentials
  • identification land water limitation
  • insight current yields and production gaps + causes
