Safety considerations when WORKING on a ladder? (4)
3 contact points with ladder should always be maintained. (2 feet and a hand)
Do not over reach. (Make sure centre of body stay is in line within the strings of ladder)
Do not work on the top 3 rounds
Do not overload the ladder. One person at at time except when assisting a casualty down the ladder.
Beam Gantry operational safety points?
Appliance drivers be aware that a minimum of 10meters behind the appliance is required to safely remove ladders.
Before removing beam gantry, ensure there are no overhead obstructions. 4.2 meters approximately.
Crews must check that the automatic safety catch is engaged to prevent beam gantry deploying when appliance is in motion
Slide mechanism can move along beam when no ladder is in place. Pin must be in place to prevent this.
Beam gantry must be replaced to stowed position when not in use to prevent it being a hazard
Sliding surfaces use solid bearings, which require NO oiling. Just was with clean water and clean cloth.
Working at height definition?
Work that takes place, where, if precautions aren’t taken, a person may fall a distance liable to cause personal injury, even if it’s below or at ground level.
Why would slack cable occur when lowering 135 ladder?
Upper extension fails to disengage.
Can happen due to dirt and de iris interfering with operation of ladder
When is the only time 3 points of contact didn’t not have to be made with a ladder?
When firefighter has taken a leg lock.
Examples of when a crew of 4 should pitch a 9m ladder?
When there are obstacles or in high winds.
Crew of 4 provide more control and less physical effort required
Examples of when an short extension ladder can be used?
To negotiate walls or railings
For gaining access to roofs
For spanning holes in floors
List the 4 ladder safety checks by number 1 once the 135 ladder has been housed?
