What happens to a red blood cell when placed in a jar of distilled water?
The red blood cell is hypertonic to the distilled water. water will rush int the red blood cell to try to balance out the solution concentration. the blood cell will expand and possible explode.
What is diffusion?
The movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration
What is osmosis?
the diffusion of water across a selectively permeable membrane from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration.

Solute is the substance being dissolved

The substance in which the solute in dissolved in. This is usually water.
What is the purpose of the tongue?
lets us enjoy flavours of foods, wanrs us when food is unsafe to eat, can manipulate objects in mouth, coordinates movement for swallowing
What is the purpose of the salivery glands?
Helps keep mouth and other parts of the digestive system moist, helps with breakdown of carbs/food. lubricates passage of food

Its a flexible flab at the end of the larynx that acts as a switch between larynx and esphagus, to permit air or food into their respective systems.
What is the purpose of the esophagus?
connects throat to stomach
What is the purpose of the liver?
Detoxifies chemicals and metabolizes drugs. secretes bile
