what is the role of the seminiferous tubules?
where sperm is formed
what is the role of the epididymus?
where sperm is stored (leaves into vas deferens when ejaculation occurs)
what are the 4 typs of asexual reproduction?
Budding- new indviduals spli from existing
Fission- seperation of parent into 2 equal individuals
Fragmentation- breaking body into pieces which develop into adult
Parthenogenesis- development of egg without fertilization
what is meiosis?
cell division that results in 4 daughter cells with half the number of chromosomes (haploid)
what three sexual structures do both sexes have?
Gonads that produce gametes and secrete hororomones
ducts for transportation
structures for copulation
what occurs during menstruation?
3-7 days, uterine lining breaks down. levels of estrogen and progesterone rise as edometrium thickens, levels drop due to no implantation.
What occurs during ovulation?
egg is released through follicle, which becomes corpus luteum which produces est. and prog, if fertliziation occurs, embryo prduces HGC which maintains corpus
what is the life cycle of sperm?
Spermatogenesis: creation of sperm in seminiferous tubules. Sperm stem cells develop in male embryo. Spermatogonia - primary spermatocytes (diploid) - secondary spermatocytes (Haploid)- spermatids- mature sperm.
