Iron and Steel workers went on strike against Carnegie Steel Company, the company brought strikebreakers in and state military
1901 Coal Strike
United Mine Workers went on strike and state military put down the strike
1894 Ludlow Massacre
The National Guard was called in to put down a strike by coal miners, leading to the deaths of over 20 people
National Labor Union
- One of the first unions
- Wanted to improve the rights and working conditions for workers
- Didn’t care about trade or skill level
Knights of Labor
- More inclusive than National Labor Union
- Accepted all workers regardless of their skill, race, or gender
- Wanted to abolish child labor
Haymarket Riot
Chicago - eight people died after someone threw a bomb at police.
- Led to backlash against labor unions as a whole
American Federation of Laborors
- One of the most influential labor unions
- ## Had narrower goals (more pay, better working conditions)
