Lab10_SalivaryGlands, Liver & Pancreas Flashcards
What are the main differences between Mucous and Serous gland cells?
Serous glands:
- Smaller lumen
- Tall pyramidal cells, basally located spherical nucleus
- eosinophilic zymogen granules at the apex
Mucous glands:
- Larger lumen
- Pyramidal shaped cells
- basally located flattened nucleus
- Mucin droplets
*mixed ainus = mucous + serous demilunes
What are the 3 salivary glands?
- Parotid gland → 100% serous / Branched acinar gland
- Submandibular gland → 90% Serous + 10% Mucous / compound tubulo-acinar gland
- Sublingual gland → 100% mucous + some mucous with serous demilunes
What is the general plan of the salivary glands? (duct system)
Main excretory duct ← Interlobar duct ← Interlobular duct ← Striated duct ← Intercalated duct
Intercalated duct = smallest, simple squamous/cuboidal
Striated duct = same size than acinus, cuboidal to columnar, interdigitated cells, striations = membrane infolding + mitochondria
What are the main differences between Pancreas and Parotid gland?
- No striated fuct in the pancrease (only intercalated)
- Islet of Langerhan in Pancreas
- Centroacinar cells in Pancreas
