Lab XVI Flashcards
acetabulum
- union of the ilium, ischium, and pubis
- acetabular socket- holds head of femur
- acetabular labrum- a fibrocartilage lip that deepens the socket
pubofemoral ligament
- restricts abduction
- pubis to femur
iliofemoral ligament
- prevents hyperextension
- “y” shaped
- two heads
- ilium to the greater and lesser trochanter
ischiofemoral ligament
- prevents hyperextension
- ischium and femur
gluteal region summary
-act on the hip joint
muscles superficial: gluteus maximus, gluteus medius, gluteus minimus, tensor fascia lata
deep layer: priformis, gemellus superior, obturator internus, gemellus inferior, obturator externus, quadratus femoris
innervation superficial layer: superior gluteal except gluteus maximus (inferior gluteal)
blood to superficial: superior and inferior gluteal arteries
posterior thigh summary
-act on hip joint and knee joint
muscles: biceps femoris, semitendinosus, semimembranosus
innervation: tibial nerve (hamstrings) and common fibular nerve (short head of biceps femoris)
blood supply: deep femoral artery
anterior thigh summary
-act on hip and knee joint
muscles: sartorius, quadricepts femoris & rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, vastus intermedius, iliopsoas (not strictly)
innervation: femoral nerve
blood supply: femoral artery
medial thigh summary
adductors of the thigh
muscles: pectineus, adductor brevis, adductor longus, adductor magnus (adductor portion and hamstring portion), gracilis
innervation: obturator nerve
blood supply: obturator artery & perforating branches of the deep femoral artery
gluteus maximus
-superficial layer of the gluteal region
O: iliac crest, sacrum, sacrotuberus ligament
I: iliotibial tract, gluteal tuberosity, femoral shaft
A: extension, lateral rotation
N: inferior gluteal
gluteus medius
-superficial layer of the gluteal region
O: ilium external surface
I: greater trochanter
A: abduction, medial rotation, prevents pelvic tilt with gait
superficial to the gluteus minimus
gluteus minimus
-superficial layer of the gluteal region
O:ilium external surface
I: greater trochanter
A: abduction, medial rotation, prevents pelvic tilt with gait
N: superior gluteal nerve
deep to gluteus medius
tensor fascia lata
-superficial layer of the gluteal region
-lateral side with the small muscle belly
O: iliac crest
I: ilitibial tract
A: stabilizes knee joint in extension
N: superior gluteal nerve
piriformis
deep layer of the gluteal region
o: sacrum, sacrotuberus ligament
i: greater trochanter
a: lateral rotation of the thigh, stabilize head in acetabulum
-most superior, sciatic nerve inferior
piriformis syndrome
piriformis muscle irritates sciatic n. causes sciatica
gemellus superior
deep layer of the gluteal region
o: ischial spine
i: greater trochanter
a: lateral rotation of the thigh, stabilize head in the acetabulum
-deep layer of glutes; inferior to piriformis and sciatic n
