Lab Practical upper limb Flashcards
Pectorales Major
A: Adducts and medially rotates the humerus; clavicular head flexes the humerus
N: Medial and Lateral Pectoral nerves
Pectorales Minor
A: Protracts and depresses the scapula and functions as an accessory muscle of respiration
N: Medial Pectoral nerve
Subclavius
A: Pulls lateral end of clavicle downward and forward, thereby acting to resist excessive shoulder elevation and protraction
N: Nerve to subclavius
Serratus Anterior
A: Protracts scapula, upwardly rotates the glenoid cavity, fixes scapula to thoracic wall/ if lying supine the action is elevation of the ribs
N: Long thoracic N
Latissimus Dorsi
A: adducts, extends and medial roates the humerus
N: Thoracodorsal Nerve
External Abdominal Oblique
A:rotates vertebral colum to opposit side and bends trunk to same side
N: lower intercostal n/subcostal n
Deltoid-Anterior-Middle-Posterior
A: all three together abduction of the humerus;
Anterior with other muscles flexes and medially rotates the humerus.
Posterior portion acting with other muscles extends and laterally rotates the humerus
N: axillary nerve
Supraspinatus
A: Initiates abduction of the humerus
N: Suprascapular nerve
Infraspinatus
A: Lateral Rotation of the humerus
N: Suprascapular nerve
Teres Minor
A: Lateral Rotation of the humerus
N: Axillary Nerve
Subscapularis
A: Medial rotation of the Humerus
N: Upper and Lower subscapular Nerve
Teres Major
A: Extension, adduction and medial rotation of the humerus
N: Lower subscapular N
serratus anterior scapular attachment only
A: Protracts scapula, upwardly rotates the glenoid cavity, fixates scapula to thortacic wall
N:Long Thoracic N
Long Head Triceps
A: acts at the shoulder joint to extend and adduct the arm
N: radial N.
Biceps Brachii Long Head/ Short Head
A: Flexes the forearm and supinates the hand, long heads also assist in flexion of the arm
N: Musculocutaneous N
Brachialis
A: Flexion of the forearm
N: Musculocutaneos N
Brachioradialis
A: Flexion of the forearm
N: Radial N
Coracobrachialis
A: Flexion adduction of the humerus
N: Musculocutaneos N
Triceps Brachii
A: all act to extend the forearm, long head also acts at the shoulder joint to extend and adduct the arm
N: Radial N
