Sagittal
Saggy titts. Median or midsagittal if cut in the middle.
Frontal plane
Aka coronal plane. Cuts into anterior and posterior.
Transverse plane
Horizontal cut. Aka cross sectional. Divides into top and bottom.
Superior
Cephalad (towards the head)
Inferior
Caudal (towards the feet)
Ventral and Dorsal
Anterior and Posterior
Dorsal body cavity contains
Cranial cavity and vertebral cavity
Thoracic cavity contains
Mediastinum (contains the pericardial cavity) and pleural cavity.
Viscera
Internal organs. Commonly referred to as the organs of the stomach.
Ventral body cavity contains
Thoracic and abdominopelvic cavities.
Abdominal cavity
Digestive viscera
Pelvic Cavity
Urinary bladder, reproductive organs, and rectum.
Serous membrane
Aka serosa. Double layered membrane because it covers organs and it lines different body cavities. Serosa is given a name based on its cavity. Helps to lubricate and prevent the spread of infections between organs.
