Chaper 4: Tissue Flashcards
What are the 4 types of tissues?
Epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous
Tissues are derived from these 3 germ layers
Ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm.
Study of tissues
Histology
Tissues differ in
Cell structure, cell function, and extra cellular matrix
Covers all body surfaces and cavities, lines external and internal area on organs, and has majority of glands.
Epithelial tissue
Little to no extra cellular matrix, no blood vessels, and closely packed
Epithelial tissue
Has six-sided cells named by their shape
Epithelial Tissue
6 most common epithelial tissues
Simple squamous, simple cuboidal, simple columnar, stratified squamous, transitional, pseudostratified ciliated columnar
Ductless glands that secrete hormones into the extracellular fluid
Endocrine glands
Glands that retain their ducts and secrete things
Exocrine glands
