Lab Exam 3: Muscle Tissue Flashcards
1
Q
muscle tissue
A
highly specialized to contract and produces most body movement types
2
Q
3 types of muscle tissue
A
skeletal, cardiac, smooth
3
Q
skeletal muscle
A
attached to skeleton; under voluntary control, its contraction moves limbs and external body parts
- its cells are long, cylindrical, non branching, multinucleate with nuclei pushed to periphery of cells
- obvious striations
4
Q
cardiac muscle
A
- heart
- as it contracts the heart pumps propelling the blood into blood vessels
- has striations, branching uninucleate cells that fit at junctions (intercalated discs)
- under involuntary control - cannot consciously control heart
5
Q
smooth muscle
A
in walls of hollow organs
2 layers
contraction can constrict or dilate the lumen of an organ
NO striations - spindle shaped multinucleate cells
- involuntary control
6
Q
muscle fiber membrane
A
sarcolemma
