30 second arm curl procedure

A
  1. sitting in chair, back straight, feet flat
  2. place weight in dominant arm with elbow in full extension using a handshake grip
  3. test begins with arm perpendicular to the floor
  4. on “go” client turns palm up while curling their arm through full rom
  5. clinician sit next to chair placing fingers on clients mid-bicep to ensure full ROM
  6. as many reps in 30 sec
  7. arm more than halfway at the end of 30 sec, rep counts
  8. compare results to table

  1. determine min knee step height (midway between patella and iliac crest)
  2. practice test
  3. on “go” begin stepping
  4. inform client when there is one min and 30 sec remaining to help with pacing
  5. both knees must be raised to correct height but scoring is only on with the right knee
  6. stay close to client in case of balance loss

  • 2 minutes have passed
  • client cannot maintain knee height
  • client asks to stop
  • client can stop to rest and continue the stepping after a break if time remains but time does not stop during break
  • client is allowed to place a hand on table or chair to assist balance

tug procedure

A
  1. begins with client sitting in chair (with arms) and is asked to walk 3 metres to a marker, turn around, walk back to the chair and sit down
  2. on the word go stand up, walk to the line on the floor, turn around and walk back
  3. record time
    - greater than 12 seconds = bad (fall risk assessment)

  1. test begins in middle of chair
  2. demo task
  3. on “go” the client rises to a full stand and then returns to the initial seated position
  4. encourage the client to complete as many full stands as possible within 30 seconds
  5. instruct client to sit fully between each rep
  6. monitor performance throughout the test to ensure proper form
  7. record reps
