Lab 7 Flashcards
What is the histology of the spinal cord?
Grey matter-stained “butterfly”, white matter, ganglion “large bulge”, cell bodies “circles within ganglion”, nerve “large bundles”, and axons “within nerve”.
Where does the spinal cord end and what extends bellow it?
End: conus medullaris (between L1&2)
Below: cauda equina
What can you see in the spinal cord?
Central canal
Grey matter: ventral horn, lateral horn, dorsal horn
White matter: ventral median fissure, dorsal median sulcus, ventral column (funiculus, tract), dorsal column, lateral column
What are the spinal nerve structures?
Dorsal root, dorsal root ganglion, ventral root, dorsal ramus, ventral ramus, rami communicantes
What are the meninges and spaces of the spinal cord?
Dura mater, arachnoid mater, pia mater, subarachnoid space, epidural space,
What are the spinal plexi and what is one main nerve that comes from each?
Cervical plexus-phrenic nerve
*Thoracic nerves T2-T12 do not have plexi”
Brachial plexus-median nerve
Lumbar plexus-femoral nerve
Sacral plexus-sciatic nerve
