Lab 5 Flashcards
What is a mitochondrial DNA “ haplotype” ?
The special pattern of MtCR SNPs in a particular female lineage
What is a mitochondrial DNA “ haplogroup” ?
The group of similar(not identical) haplotypes believed to have descended from a common female ancestor.
What is the map below and what does it have to do with haplogroups ?
Human migration map “out of africa “ based on haplogroups.
People are migration map is based on particular haplogroup phylogenetic tree medel.
What is the different between the two computer program we used in the lab to study the DNA sequences we amplified from mitochondrial DNA, clustal W and BLAST ? explain ?
clustal W is multiple sequence alignment
and BLAST is alignment of one sequence with a database of sequences to find the best match.
What is a restriction enzyme, such as EcoRI ?
cut DNA at specfit squences called the restriction site.
what type of living relative as sought to help identify richard’s mitochondrial dna CONTRol region DNA sequences ?
female can be used from his sister lineages
❗How is it used in the molecular biology lab, such as we will doing afternoon ?
used to cut down large DNAs into smaller pieces and we will be ligated to EcoRl-cut plasmid vector DNA.
