Lab 3 - Tissues - 3 Flashcards
• What is the difference between Cartilage and Hyaline?
Cartilage is a flexible type of connective tissue that is made up of cells called chondrocytes
Hyaline is the most common, and is found on the ribs, nose, larynx, trachea
• What does Elastic Cartilage do?
provides strength, and elasticity, and maintains the shape
• Where does the hardness come from in mineral salts?
CaPO4 and Caco4
• What is CaPO4 and Caco4 in bones?
Mineral salts
• Matrix deposited in thin concentric layers are called what?
Lamellae
• The Lamellae are around what?
Central canals
• Osteocytes pass through a processing channel/cytoplasmic process called what?
Canaliculi
• What are the 3 main characteristics of Muscle Tissue?
Voluntary, Contract, and Pull on both ends when they contract
What are the 3 types of muscle tissue?
Skeletal, Cardiac, and Smooth
• Where is Skeletal Muscle found?
Found in muscles that attach to bones
• When Skeletal muscle stimulates, it contracts by what?, When it relaxes it_____
Nerve Stimuli
Stops
• The cells in skeletal muscle are long cylinders separated by what?
Connective tissue
• Does Smooth Muscle have striations? Why or why not?
It does not, more than likely because it is not stimulated by nerve stimuli and doesn’t require voluntary movement – and doesn’t have striations
• What is Caveolae in Smooth Muscle? What does it do?
a role in the cell signaling
• What are 3 characteristics of Smooth Muscle?
Involuntary, lack striations, move by peristalsis
