Lab 3 - Cell Anatomy Flashcards
Nucleus
Cell control center
Ribosomes
Sites of protein synthesis
Usually attached to rough ER
Made of RNA and protein
Endoplasmic reticulum
Rough: storage and transport of proteins synthesized by ribosomes
Smooth: site of steroid and lipid synthesis
Lysosomes
Sacs containing digestive enzymes
Digest foreign objects and old organelles
Golgi Apparatus
Packages proteins for export from the cell or incorporation into membrane
Also makes lysosomes
Mitochondria
Double membrane
Makes food into ATP
Centrioles
Move chromosomes during mitosis
Paired at right angles
Steps of Mitosis
Prophase: chromosomes condense, centrioles spread and attach to chromosomes
Metaphase: chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell
Anaphase: sister chromatids pull apart to separate sides
Telophase: nucleus reforms, cell splits into two
Steps of Meiosis
Meiosis I
Interkinesis
Meiosis II
Meiosis I
Prophase I: chromosomes shorten and condense
Metaphase I: pairs come together, cross over, line up in the middle
Anaphase I: separate into homologous pairs
Telophase I; divide into 2 cells
Meiosis II
Basically mitosis
Nuclieoli
Dense mass in nucleus where ribosomes are made
