  1. Identify tooth to be extracted
  2. Open forceps to slide over crown of tooth
  3. Slide forceps subgnigivaly against root surface, close and move fingers outside forceps

  3. Rotate tooth clockwise as for as possible then counter clockwise

A

Both sides of socket are nipped by fingers as a method of applying pressure to the area

How to achieve haemostasis?

A
  1. Place a bite pack into the socket and tell the child to bite firmly for 5 minutes
  2. Remove pack and examine socket
  3. Haemostasis must be achieved before child leaves surgery

POI for extractions?

A
  1. Must be given verbal and written
  2. Saliva will cause socket to turn pink - reassure this is normal
  3. If bleeding re occurs at home - roll up a clean cotton handkerchief and bite for 20 minutes
  4. If bleeding persists contact A+E
  5. Good OH
  6. After LA do not bite chew or suck the lip or tongue
  7. Avoid injury to socket through food
  8. Avoid hot drinks
  9. Do not rinse or spit for the rest of day
  10. Avoid exercise for 24hrs
