more serious as damage extends beyond top layer of skin (dermis) and characterized by skin blisters and skin become extremely red and sore with some thickening. Some blisters may open, giving the burn a wet appearance.
Second-degree burns
If superficial → healing without scar If deep → may have a scar

the most severe as damage extends through all layers of skin with widespread thickness. They can destroy nerves (partial or complete) causing impaired sensation with numbness and tingling or loss of sensation. They can cause extensive scarring.
Third-degree burns
extends beyond the skin into tendons, muscles and bones.

Help victim (stop, drop & roll) (wrap in a blanket) to smother flames.
Remove hot or burned clothing if NOT sticky. - Remove rings, jewelry, belts or other tight items from burned area before the area swells.
First aid to burns
Cool burned area under cool (not cold) running water for 10 – 20 minutes or more (↓ pain, swelling, inflammation & long-term scarring).

Apply anesthetic soothing gel or cream to the skin
First aid for (1st degree).
Use antibiotic ointment to blisters
(2nd degree).
- Cover loosely with sterile, non-adhesive bandage or clean cloth or cling film.
