L7 Health Behaviors Flashcards
What are health behaviors?
maintaining, promoting, or improving well being
ex) screenings, treatment of conditions, health promotion activities like sleep, eat, exercise
Provider perception of patient responsibility
grid, pts can be accountable for problem or not, accountable for solution or not
moral model
Patient responsible for problem and solution
patients are accountable for their health problems and their health solutions
education important but less likely to be provided
provider doesn’t feel as much sympathy but holds accountable
compensatory model
patient is NOT responsible for problem but very responsible for solution
provider willing to help and holds pt accountable for solution
enlightenment model
pt responsible for problem but not responsible for solution
provider sympathy for pt problems and pt education
less education and less willingness to help due to causing problem
medical model
patient not causing problem or responsible for solution
pt education less valued, provider sympathy for pt and provider responsible for solution so pt education not needed
How does patient responsibility affect patient treatment?
medical and compensatory models see pt as not causing the problem - leads the provider to be more willing to help vs other two
medical and enlightenment see pt not responsible for solution so they do less education vs other two
