L5.3 - Shoulder Complex Flashcards
In what position is there greatest stability in the shoulder complex?
During abduction and external rotation - paradoxically, this is also the position for dislocation
2 Physiological Joints of the Shoulder Complex
1) Subdeltoid - allows Supraspinatus to abduct
2) Scapulothoracic - Scapula sitting against ribcages
SC Joint - Ant or post sublaxation is worse?
Post - subclavian and carotid artery are compromised posteriorly
What joint is damaged in shoulder separation injuries?
AC Joint
Coracoid process of scapula is found more anteriorly or posteriorly?
Anteriorly
Lesser tubercle vs greater tubercle of humerus - which one is found more anteriorly?
Lesser tubercle
Painful arc syndrome?
Inflammation of the tendons of rotator cuff muscles as they pass through subacromial space - can’t pick up arm past 15 degrees (as supraspinatus is affected)
*BUT if doctor helps patient go past 15 degrees, deltoid acts on it and patient can move
Glenohumeral rhythm is when the ratio of movement for scapula : humerus is
1:2 e.g. 60 degrees of movement at scapula is 120 in humerus
Frozen shoulder
Adhesive capsulitis where capsule is inflamed and calcification occurs which restricts movement
Posterior GH Joint dislocation is rare - what are two things that can cause it?
Seizures or Electrical shock
