1
Q
How many cells in the bone marrow are HSCs?
A
1 in 20 million
2
Q
What is the state of HSC’s in the bonemarrow?
A
Most are dormant (there but not in cell cycle), only a few % are active in the cell cycle.
3
Q
Name examples how the stem cell can be in contact with cells, such as macrophages, fibroblast, mesenchymal cells.
A
Either cell-cell contact, OR:
HSC has either ligand or growth factor receptor (glycoproteins) that recognises adhesion molecules or growth factors on the type of cells .
4
Q
Name examples of what the mesenchymal cells give rise to
A
Gives rise to bone cells, connective tissue e.g.
