L2. Rh blood group system Flashcards
What are the two genes in the Rh blood system?
RhD
RhCcEe
What type of proteins are Rh?
Multipass.
What are the antigens for Rh?
D, C, c, E, e
What is Anti-D AB responsible for?
Responsible for most clinical problems, and is not occurring as often as RhD+
What happens when mother is RhD- and child RhD+?
RhD+ RBCs from fetus cross to maternal circulation. Anti-Rhesus are immune ABs, can cross placenta, coat RhD+ fetal RBC, can result in reticuloendothelial destruction of RBC by macrophages.
How is hemolytic disease of newborn prevented?
Mother receives immunoporhylaxis w/ Anti-RhD at 30 weeks and after birth.
Anti-RhD ABs mop any RhD+ fetus cell in mother, so no immune response is generated.
