L22, Relative Phase Flashcards
Objectives:
- To understand the use of discrete and continuous relative phase
- To apply continuous relative phase to gait and kicking
Summary:
- DRP used to show phase difference in timing of certain events
- CRP represents the difference in states of two variables throughout the movement
- CRP is four variables in one-two joint angles and two joint angular velocities
- Normalise data to centre phase planes around zero
- Look for how coordination changes under different constraints rather than “ideal” coordination
What is discrete relative phase used for?
Relative timing between important instances in a movement.
What does continuous relative phase represent?
The difference in states of two variables throughout the movement
What does it mean to have a relative phase of >0?
Proximal segment is ahead of distal in phase space and vice versa.
