What is insecure-avoidant?
Infants are very independent and ignore their primary caregiver
Show no separation protest, stranger anxiety, or reunion joy (ignore when mother returns)
What is secure?
Play happily when caregiver is present and used them as a safe base
Show reunion joy - wants immediate contact when PC returns
What is insecure-resistant?
Clingy, cry more, and won’t explore the room
Positive evaluation point?
Has been replicated several times and this could be done because the environment was highly controlled
Negative evaluation point (1)?
Doesn’t measure attachment style but attachment to one individual as only mother was used
Primary caregiver may be the father
Weaker bond with mother
Different behaviour depending on figure
Negative evaluation point (2)?
Biased culturally towards the USA - western cultures
Some behaviours seen as healthy in USA aren’t seen as such by other cultures e.g. crying when leaving means being spoilt in Germany

Distressed when completely alone
